Hi everyone,
It is a scary week here in Ely, but the Ely Folk School is OPEN and safe. While many of our friends and neighbors have been evacuated from their homes and cabins and town is being affected by smoke from fires in and around the Boundary Waters and in Ontario; it is important to continue to gather with friends and acquaintances, to see and be seen, and to feel the pain of the moment together.

We are monitoring the evolving situation closely and are keeping our instructors and students aware of any changing program plans. We are running programs as we're able and our Ceramics Studio remains open for our members to come and create.
This weekend, if you're looking for something to do inside, please consider signing up for a class - We have Root Beer: History You Can Taste, Summer Northwoods Herbalism, and Introduction to the Humanities: Book Club Dinner Party all still accepting additional students! These are great opportunities to be in community, to learn something new, and have good discussions with strangers, acquaintances, and new friends.
For folks not in Ely and wanting to support us up here - please consider sending a tip to your favorite BWCA or fishing guide; buying a gift card or ordering retail goods online from an Ely business; and donating to an Ely nonprofit. We are hurting and scared for our homeplaces and futures, but so very hopeful and grateful for all the support, communication, and love coming from inside and outside of Ely. You can also find up to date and consolidated resources and mutual aid from the Ely Community Response group.

We love this community and are so proud of the support systems we've built together.
Stay strong, stay cool, and stay connected.
